Biography

Natasha is a researcher at the Biological Oceanography Group (GOB) working on the use of Amnis Multi-spectral Imaging Flow Cytometry (IFC) for phytoplankton community composition and water quality analysis. Natasha obtained her BSc in Marine Science with Honours from the Scottish Association for Marine Science (SAMS) in 2021. She then continued her multi-disciplinary education with a MSc in Biological Oceanography at GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel with her thesis taking place at the Alfred Weigner Institute for Polar and Marine Research. Her thesis focused on developing a novel method to measure diatom silicification using IFC and applying this method to investigate the effects of declining silicic acid concentrations on Arctic phytoplankton on two research cruises aboard R.V. Polarstern. Her current work at GOB aims at developing existing viability and vitality assays for marine phytoplankton to analyse with an Amnis Imagestream IFC for water quality monitoring purposes.
